Where did your Favorites go? Well, FCP saves Favorites as part of its preferences, so when you deleted your preferences, you also deleted those Favorites. It was only a dream, it’s okay! To prevent this from happening, here is an easy fix: ᕡ Create a new project. ᕢ Drag the Effects tab off the Browser so you can see it a little better. ᕣ Drag all of your Favorites into the main level of the Browser for the new project. ᕤ Save the project and give it a name like MY FILTERS. Now, because all of your Favorites are located in a project and not the Favorites bin they’re safe.

It’s a pain getting your hard drive all cluttered with extra render files that eat up drive space. Well, you have a solution; you can render to RAM. The QuickView is a great way to view your sequence outside of the Canvas window. It caches frames into RAM as you play it: ᕡ The QuickView creates no render files, which is good for media management. ᕢ If you preview an effect and like it, you’ll still have to render before you can do final output.

To create and apply a Filter Pack, simply do the following: 44 ᕡ Add filters to your clip as you see fit. ᕢ Make sure you don’t have any filters selected in the Filters tab of the Viewer (when a filter is selected FCP will make a favorite filter not a Filter Pack). ᕣ Choose Effects > Make Favorite Effect or Option + F. ᕤ Choose the Effects tab in the Browser and then open the Favorites bin. Inside the favorites bin notice that a sub bin that is named effects (Filters). This is a Filter Pack. ᕥ Rename the Filter Pack to something a little more descriptive; for example, Widescreen with Color Corrector.
